Incomplete development of the second Mullerian duct may result in a degenerate uterine horn that may be attached to the unicornuate uterus. The uterine cavity of the second (degenerate) uterine horn occasionally communicates with the main unicornuate cavity. Noncommunicating (degenerate uterine) cavities may result in (severe) pelvic pain especially around the time of menses (when blood is “trapped” within this horn).
