Photograph of a hydatid cyst of Morgagni at the end of the right fallopian tube. These simple vesicular appendices on the end of the fallopian tubes or uterus are remnants of the male (Wolffian Duct) system that were predominantly (yet incompletely) resorbed during embryogenesis (within the mother’s womb). These remnants can hang from the fallopian tube and displace the tube (due to their weight on the end of the tube) and may interfere with tubal capture of the egg. I routinely remove these cysts whenever they are identified since they may have a significant impact on fertility.
