Photograph of the hysteroscopic view of a uterine cavity that contains a broad based filling defect projecting into the cavity. The resectoscope loop electrode (capable of carrying electrical energy to the tissue that is touched) is seen extending from the outer resectoscope sheath into the cavity and around the mass that is identified. The loop electrode is generally extended in this fashion to the opposite side of a structure to be removed and then slowly retracted back into the sheath of the resectoscope (possibly while applying monopolar electrical current to assist in cutting through the tissue).
