8 Cell Human Embryo

This photomicrograph (microscopic view) shows an 8 cell human embryo that is being cultured for In Vitro Fertilization and Embryo Transfer. The blastomeres are of nearly equal size and there is very little fragmentation. Eight cell embryos are generally seen between about 48-72 hours after insemination. It is also common to see 3, 5, 6, or 7 cell embryos interposed between the classic 2, 4, and 8 cell landmarks.
