Photograph of the right fallopian tube that is densely adherent to the right pelvic sidewall in a very unusual location. These adhesions are almost kinking the midsection of the fallopian tube and would markedly increase the chance for an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy if fertilization occurred in this right tube. These adhesions also pulled the distal (fimbriated) end of the fallopian tube away from the right ovary, most likely markedly reducing the chance of conception when ovulation occurs on the right side. These sorts of adhesions can be seen postoperatively (after prior adhesiolysis surgery especially if microsurgical techniques were not strictly employed to reduce adhesion formation), along with pelvic endometriosis, or following a pelvic infection (appendicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease).
