Photograph of the upper abdomen revealing a great deal of filmy perihepatic (in the vicinity of the liver) adhesions that extend from the liver to the inner lining (peritoneum) of the abdominal wall. These adhesions are often associated with prior gonococcal (gonorrhea) or chlamydial (chlamydia) infections, and perihepatitis associated with a prior pelvic inflammatory disease is often referred to as “Fitz-Hugh and Curtis Syndrome.” These adhesions are not (generally) treated surgically.
