Photograph of the laparoscopic view of the medial (midline) wall of a right unicornuate uterus.
A small mass of smooth muscle tissue adjacent to the right unicornuate uterus in the midline of the pelvis was identified and either represents a fibroid or a degenerate left uterine horn. When a (noncommunicating) rudimentary uterine horn is identified (one that does not communicate with or connect to the vagina or the other uterine horn) the presence of functioning endometrium (cells that normally line the uterine cavity) within this horn should be determined since noncommunicating uterine horns with functional endometrial tissue usually would be removed surgically.
